HomeReno Cost

Editorial policy

HomeReno Cost publishes home-improvement cost calculators and guides. This page explains who produces that content, where the numbers come from, how we review work before it goes live, and how to flag a correction. Our aim is simple: every estimate should be something you can trace back to its sources and judge for yourself.

Who writes these pages

Calculators and guides are produced and maintained by the HomeRenoCost Editorial Team — a small group that builds the cost models, compiles the underlying price and wage data, and edits the written guidance. We are not contractors and do not sell leads or installation services, so our guidance is not steering you toward a quote. Content is attributed to the editorial team rather than a single byline because each page combines data work, modeling, and editing.

How we compile cost data

National unit prices come from public home-improvement cost aggregators; regional labor is adjusted using government wage statistics — the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment & Wage Statistics in the United States, the Office for National Statistics ASHE series in the United Kingdom, and the published proxy wage series we disclose for Canada and Australia. Sales tax, VAT, or GST is applied per market. Every calculator has a methodology page that lists the formula, the unit costs, the labor model, and the sources — for example, the US roof replacement methodology.

How we review before publishing

Guides are drafted, then checked by an editor against the cost model and the cited sources before they are allowed to publish. A guide that has not cleared that review is withheld — it does not appear on the site or in our sitemap until it is marked reviewed. Published guides carry a “Reviewed” date so you can see how current the check is, and we re-review when underlying prices or wage data move materially.

Corrections

If a figure looks wrong or a source is out of date, tell us and we will check it. Our estimates are derived planning ranges, not contractor quotes, and real prices vary with project complexity, access, material availability, and local demand.
